Mad and Noisy Prepares for the New Year

Here's to a Great 2011 for all the Members of the Mad and Noisy Gallery!  The sooner members submit their fees and work commitment to the gallery, the sooner the Board and the Administrator can begin to shape the fine details of its management.  I hope that part of the 2011 endeavours will include an active exchange of thoughts and ideas on this Blog.  Let's make it happen!

Recent Commission

Hi All,
After two years of procrastination, I have finally completed an oblilgation that I'm embarrassed to admit should have been fulfilled earlier. Nonetheless, here is my logic: in the past two years, the SUBJECT has grown and changed. Hence, my relief carving of him may be quite accurate; nonetheless, with the passage of time, the parents will NOT see the change from the reference photos I had available.
As it happened, the parents were delightd with my effort BUT they were even more thrilled when their son saw my carving and immediately declared, "HEY, THAT's ME!!!" What more could I ask?

More Communication

Wow!!! We DO have the technology and I for one am delighted to see us collectively to try our best to tap into this source.

Thanks to Caroline for creating our MAD AND NOISY Blog.

CreemoreCentric Due Date

Work should be brought in by the 6th;  this is a correction to my guess of the 7th.

CreemoreCentric

Looking at the Opening Show of CreemoreCentric,  I suspect it is a good idea to have submissions to the Gallery by the 7th of January 2011.   With time out for Holiday fun, that is not a lot of time, but fortunately the canvases are small!   So I hope all artists are already working out ideas, at any rate.
I am doing some preliminary drawings of an aerial view of Creemore  ( sort of )   with a Kestrel hovering above the distant landscape as the river goes off in both directions.
Anyone else want to share her/his plans with us ?

Welcome to More Bloggers

It is exciting to see more names being added every day, but I keep looking for more comments and postings....... we're not such a shy group are we ??     Hey look,  I just figured out how to add images; that is so great!

More Bloggers are Joining

Hey,  look.  We are steadily gather up more "authors" for this Blog.  However, they seem to be shy, or too busy to make any contributions.  Come on artists!  I can't do this by myself.

Liz Eakins and Andrea Mueller

The Opening of this Dual Show on saturday was "a terrible crush",  which is to say it drew the crowds!  I loved the way the works of the two artists were so beautifully integrated.  Clean and classical both in the creations and  in presentation, if you couldn't make it saturday, do stop in to enjoy it.  Very soon I hope to have photos posted with a little review,  it all depends on "my photographer".

Where We've Been and Where We're Going

December is a good month to sum up many accomplishments of the past year at the Mad and Noisy.  Tracey listed  them at the AGM a few days ago, and they are impressive ( and many a direct result of our greatly appreciated Trillium Grant. )  We have a newly-renovated "back-rooms" thanks in great part to Peter Dillman and Rosemary Hasner, we have new lights, and new plinths, UV protection on our huge windows, a security-system,  more display walls, a renovated front desk area,  not to mention a whole new operating system using Lightspeed and Quickbooks.
A few statistics for 2010:  art sales increased 19 % over 2009.  We had greater art rentals, and workshops running.  We coordinated more events with local businesses than ever before.  And our operating system has been enormously improved over the previous year.  We have a Promotional CD of artist members' works ( thanks to Corey Finkelstein ) ready to be used now, and a new push on the Artists' BIOS book from David Johnson.
2011 Shows are all booked ( so if you are looking at 2012 for a show, tell the Curator now ).  Peter Adams told the members at the AGM about a new opportunity coming up at the Gladstone in Toronto in February so stay tuned.  And finally,

Strategic Planning on the Front Burner

Many of you can remember back to last Spring when you responded to a questionaire from the board to all artist-members asking for your in-put on the Strengths and Weaknesses of the C.A.C., and also ideas about Opportunities for the future, and perceived Threats to our operations as we move forward.
Every thought submitted has been read, discussed and re-read and tabulated by board members and the committee members working on fine-tuning our mission statement and developing our strategic plan for the next several years.
Those opinions and ideas you submitted have formed the basis of the content that the Strategic Planning Committee is currently working through in on-going meetings led by an independent, professional Facilitator.   The Committee is grateful to those members who contributed their thoughts so that our gallery policy may continue to reflect the collective force of its members as a whole.

Frith Bail & Paulette Dennis Show

You get to have a drink and a chat with some pretty special people at Show Openings of the Mad & Noisy Gallery, so wear your very most fascinating outfit, maybe with a bird or two in charming colours.

Frith Bail at her exhibition of Naked Clay sculptures, desparately in need of a decent photographer; where are the Gallery's Photographers when you need them?

When does a subtle touch of colour in the right place act as a focal point in a great composition ?  Paulette Dennis knows the answer to that one.  Both artists have used colour sparingly but effectively.  Paulette's sensitive pencil work is a pleasure to see and feel; her studies from nature also evoke the imagination.

Hello from Peter A

Many thanks to Caroline Routh for starting this Mad and Noisy blog!! Like Caroline, I hope it will prove to be a great opportunity to share information and ideas ...and also to strengthen the sense of community that we all appreciate as members of the M&N. Speaking of sharing information, our Annual General Meeting is coming up soon, and it also offers us all a great chance to share ideas and find out what's happening both within the gallery and behind the scenes. It is also our opportunity to vote in a new Board of Directors for the year ahead. Please mark your calendars for the evening of Monday November 22nd. The meeting will begin at 7pm, but we will be ordering pizza for all to enjoy beforehand. Please bring a few dollars to contribute to this and show up at the gallery between 6 and 7. Hope to see all of you there!

One Small Step into the Future

Hi Jim,  You did it , that's great.   Hope to see you at the Opening on Sat.  Caroline

Intricacy & Naked Clay

The Mad and Noisy spreads out farther and farther.  There I was on my way to The Cheese Gallery on Thornbury's main drag, when my eyes caught on  Intricacy & Naked Clay.   I hope to take in the opening of the show this coming Saturday afternoon.  I know Frith has been working on an exciting new direction for her and the very attractive invitation promises so much.  And Paulette's drawings, with a delicate touch of colour, will put me into my sensitive mode, which is a good thing.
So I look forward to another opening, another show, and expect to see many members from the gallery there to offer support.

How to Blog with Mad and Noisy Artists

When you arrive at the Mad and Noisy Gallery Blog, you can follow one or two basic procedures to begin:
1.  click  VIEW BLOG to read existing postings,  and then
click  COMMENTS  and type in your message.  When finished you may  PREVIEW first;  then to "publish" your message,
    click  POST  COMMENT;  then exit.

2. Click  NEW POST  to type in your new and original contribution to all members.

You can give your posting a TITLE,  and also a LABEL  ( to put postings into categories for easy viewing in the future.)   The label might be, for example,  your NAME, or GROUP SHOWS, or OPENINGS,  or maybe WOOD CRAFTS, or LANDSCAPE PAINTING, or THOUGHTS about the GALLERY.

3. POSTING IMAGES;  In NEW POST, click "compose", and then click on the ICON that looks like a framed picture.  You should get a menu that says, " Add image from your computer " above a Bar that allows you to BROWSE.   You can also design the layout and add text.  (  I haven't actually found this menu myself, but this is what their HELP directions say to do.  Things seem to be in a state of flux with Blogger at the moment so I will try again later. C )

Hi all Artist-members of the Mad and Noisy.

Welcome to the joys of  artistic blogging.  I hope that many of you members of the gallery will find that this is a useful and even fun way to keep in touch with fellow artists, to learn more about their current projects, to exchange ideas about the creative processes being undertaken, and to keep up with news from the gallery on a continuing basis.
Please contribute your thoughts to this on-going dialogue, and/or ask questions about something that might puzzle you, with the hope that some one or more of the members will try to provide an answer.  As secretary of the board, I hope to be able to keep members up to date here with general news from the gallery.
Very soon you will be able to find some posts describing how to take part in this blog
